Troy Skate Church

About us

The Mission and Vision

Our Mission
Troy Skate Church exists to reach the youth and young adults in our skate community and surrounding communities with the love of Jesus regardless of gender, background, race or religious affiliation.
-- We exist to see lives changed!

Whether it is a reassuring conversation, financial help, a hot meal, education, professional training, or simply the assurance that they are not alone; TSC works to make sure that everyone gets the love and support that meets them where they’re at.

Our Vision
Troy Skate Church envisions a community of skaters united in their love for Christ and empowered to reach their full potential, both spiritually and professionally, so they can make a lasting impact on the world.

We imagine a community full of positive uplifting and lasting impact, not only from our team but also from the skaters themselves. Where skaters find their calling and purpose and follow it with their whole hearts! TSC hopes to be a conduit to facilitate and point skaters along this path of growth and empowerment.

As our name suggests, Troy Skate Church is a 501c3 non-profit church, focused on outreach to the youth and young adults in our the skate community. That said, we don’t operate like your typical Christian church. We function more like an outreach ministry, as we try to be the hands and feet of the body.

Think of us like a misfit’s church, the black sheep of the family. We’re rough, messy, and not your standard Christians! We have a heart for skaters and just want to love people like Christ would have!

The Troy Skate Church team is composed of many people and we can’t list everyone here. Swing in sometime to see our Champion Wall and meet some of us. You’re guaranteed to be met with a fist bump, high five, or smiling face!

Troy Skate Church runs by the help and support of the community. To see some ways you to join our team, zoom on over to the Get Involved page.

Where it all began...

The Call
"Troy Skate Church", that's what Sami heard while driving around looking for buildings for her business. She called Jon and he was all in, it aligned perfectly with the discipleship program he was working on. They prayed about it and shortly after founded TSC in 2021.

August 2021, with the help of Michael Burrows and Brandon Ike, Jon and Sami Hagar went out to the local skate park in Troy Ohio and started doing weekly, free, community cookouts. In December of 2021, the weather started getting cold and the skaters would huddle around the grill to stay warm. That’s when the team knew they needed an indoor space. TSC rented a venue for a couple hours a night on Wednesday night for the cold winter months. Ever since, Troy Skate Church has been cooking out on Friday nights during the warm seasons, and renting a space for the cold months. The first indoor space was not great for skating and the next winter the team rented out the Duke Lundgard building at the Miami County Fairgrounds. This continued for the winter of 2024 as well.

The Refuge
We knew we needed a year round indoor space to bless these kids and show off all of God's goodness for His children. In 2024, TSC had it's first annual benefit dinner where generosity overflowed and we were blessed with enough funds to rent a space year-round.

Our first space needed some work and we were blessed to find that our community was willing to help! Many wonderful teams came out to help us prep our building for opening. In the fall of 2024, Troy Skate Church was awarded a God Size Vision grant from CLC allowing us to purchase the materials to do a real skatepark buildout. Friends and other Skate Ministries from around the country came out and helped build the majority of the park in a long weekend in December 2024. The Refuge was officially opened in January 2025 kicking off Troy Skate Church’s first year-round indoor space and Troy Ohio’s only indoor skatepark. Troy Skate Church continues to operate The Refuge year-round to give the skate community a free, indoor spot to skate and be loved.
