The Buildout

When TSC signed the lease to the space, we thought "Maybe we will just open with the obstacles we have and a few new ones". But God had other plans. Thanks to CLC and the God Sized Vision Grant, we were able to purchase the lumber and materials to make The Refuge a true indoor skatepark!

Then, in one long weekend, with the help of multiple ministries and teams, we were able to build all the ramps and skate obstacles.

We never thought we would be this blessed!

Months of planning and work went into just getting the space ready for the buildout. To meet building code an ADA bathroom had to be made, signage and emergency lighting put up, along with many other tasks. Then came the lighting for visibility and wall insulation to help reduce noise for the neighbors. Once all that was cleaned up, we were onto the skatepark design…

From park design to inception we had the help of “Build It” Brandon and Kyle Brush. We revised the plans to fit the space 3 times. The community came together and helped us with funding and resources. The Christian Life Center (CLC) awarded us the God Sized Vision Grant allowing us to purchase the lumber to buildout the ramps.

In December, teams came from across the US to help build the ramps and make the plan come together! TSC and the crew spent a long weekend from sun up to sundown putting in the work! You can see the time-lapse video below. After the dust settled, we put up the open sign in January 2025 and started skating!!

Together with many other amazing people, we were able to make The Refuge a reality! If you’re interested in being part of the team that makes all this happen, head over to the Get Involved page and check out how you can partner with us!
